I have always believed that primary education is so much more than consuming information, it is a way to shape the minds of our future generation and ensure that their childhood is full of rich, stimulating ideas and opportunities to fully prepare them for adulthood. Since being on placement at St Michael’s Catholic Primary school I have become a part of a great family community and here I have explored and developed my teaching skills through observations, constrictive criticism, and excellent feedback from my mentors. Thus, ensuring from the get-go that my teaching was always challenged, and my skills developed further with the children’s learning always at the forefront.

I have been in a KS1 placement in Year One and here I have had lots of exposure to phonics and the successful teaching of it, I have taken an active approach in having my own phonics group and have used the time in my KS1 placement to really master my knowledge of phonics. Within my teaching I try to implement as much scaffolding through modelling as possible whilst also allowing an active approach to the children’s learning, getting them to explore ideas and come to their own conclusions.

Whilst being in a Catholic primary school I have valued the Catholic ethos that is embedded in everything the school and the staff do, not only have I thoroughly enjoyed the family like community this creates but the values will be transferable to any school, promoting kindness, family, equality, and helpfulness.

Whilst on placement I have taken part in many training sessions, Psychological First Aid training, CEOPS training, safeguarding, Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health training and more. I am an enthusiastic and passionate teacher with a true love of the profession, I am at the start of my career being an NQT and I understand the importance of adaptability and reflection that will be needed to ensure success for both me and my pupils.

I have an undergraduate degree in English Literature and in the future would be interested in becoming an English lead. I am also extremely invested in reading for pleasure and would love to bring this passion to a school. I believe I am a kind-hearted, nurturing person who values the induvial, and because of this my classroom would be a welcoming and warm place that celebrates success and growth. I would use displays to promote excellent work and enhance learning as I understand the value of this for children. My class would be a safe place that ensures each and every child is respected, heard, and valued as this is at the heart of who I am. I am incredibly passionate about equality and celebrating diversity and this would be a forefront of my teaching. I am very aware of the impact of mental health on children and this something I would take very seriously within my profession.
